| A friend was in front of me | Как-то один (мой) друг шёл впереди меня, |
| coming out of church one day, | когда выходил из церкви, |
| and the preacher was standing at the door as he always is | а проповедник как всегда стоял у двери, |
| to shake hands. | чтобы пожать (выходящим) руки. |
| He grabbed my friend by the hand | Он схватил моего друга за руку |
| and pulled him aside. | и оттащил в сторону. |
| Pastor said, | Пастор сказал, |
| "You need to join | "Вам нужно вступить |
| the Army of the Lord!" | в ряды Армии Господа!" |
| My friend said, | Мой друг ответил |
| "I’m already in the Army of the Lord, Pastor." | "Я уже состою в Армии Господа, пастор" |
| Pastor questioned, | Пастор спросил: |
| "How come I don’t see you | "Как же так получается, что я не вижу вас |
| except at Christmas and Easter?" | (никогда) кроме Рождества и Пасхи?" |
| He whispered back, | Друг ему шёпотом: |
| "I’m in the Secret Service." | "Я состою в Секретной службе" |
