The Wolf pulled the string,	Волк дёрнул за щеколду,
and the latch went up.	и она поднялась.

The door opened,	Дверь открылась (отперлась),
and he jumped in,	волк впрыгнул внутрь,
and fell upon the old woman,	бросился на старую женщину,
and ate her up in less than no time,	и съел её в мгновение ока,
for he had not tasted food for three days.	ибо он не ел (еду) три дня.

He then shut the door,	Затем он закрыл дверь,
and got into the grandmother's bed.	и лёг в бабушкину кровать.

By and by, Little Red-Riding-Hood came	Вскоре, маленькая Красная Шапочка пришла
and knocked at the door tap, tap!	и постучалась в дверь: тук, тук!

"Who is there?"	"Кто там?"

Little Red-Riding-Hood heard the big voice of the Wolf,	Маленькая Красная Шапочка, услышав грубый голос волка,
and at first she was afraid.	сначала испугалась.

Then she thought her grandmother must have a bad cold,	(Но) затем подумала, что у бабушки должно быть тяжёлая простуда,
so she answered:	(поэтому) она ответила:
"Little Red-Riding-Hood.	"Маленькая Красная Шапочка.
I have brought you a cake	Я принесла тебе торт
and a pot of butter from mother."	и горшочек масла от матушки".

The Wolf softened his voice as much as he could,	Волк смягчил свой голос как только мог,
and called out:	и прокричал:
"Pull the string, and the latch will go up."	"Дёрни за верёвочку, и щеколда поднимется (откроется)"
