| The Emperor, with all the grandees of his court, | Король, вместе со всеми своими знатными придворными |
| came to the weavers. The thieves raised their arms, | зашёл к ткачам. Лгуны поднимая вверх руки, |
| as if in the act of holding something up. | словно держа в них что-то. |
| "Here are your Majesty’s trousers! | "Вот ваше величество панталоны! |
| Here is the scarf! Here is the mantle! | А вот шарф! Вот мантия! |
| The whole suit is as light as a cobweb; | Какой лёгкий наряд, словно паутина, |
| one might fancy one has nothing at all on, when dressed in it." | подумать только, будто бы ничего и нет, когда надеваешь его". |
| "Yes indeed!" said all the courtiers, | "Да, верно!" соглашались придворные, |
| although not one of them could see anything of this special cloth. | хотя не один из них ничего не видел. |
| The Emperor was undressed for a fitting, | Король был без одежды, |
| and the thieves pretended to array him in his new suit. | а лгуны делали вид, что надевают на него новый наряд. |
| he Emperor turned round and from side to side before the looking glass. | А Король всё вертелся-крутился смотря на себя в зеркало. |
| "How splendid his Majesty looks | "Как великолепно его величество выглядит |

| These are indeed royal robes!" | Без сомнений наряд для Короля!" |
| "I am quite ready," said the Emperor. | "Я готов" произнёс Король. |
