| Hansel and Gretel walk with their father and stepmother. | Гензель и Гретель идут вместе с их отцом и мачехой (в лес). |
| Gretel is afraid and the woodcutter is sad. | Гретель боится и дровосек в печали. |
| But Hansel isn’t afraid. | Но Гензель не боится. |
| He isn’t sad. | Он не печалится. |
| He’s dropping stones. | Он бросает камушки. |
| They can follow the stones and go home. | Они (с)могут идти по камушкам и выйти(вернуться) домой. |
| In the middle of the forest, the bad stepmother says, | Глубоко в лесу, плохая мачеха говорит, |
| "Let’s make a fire. | "Давайте разведём костёр. |

| Wait here." | Ждите здесь" |
| Father and the bad stepmother leave. | Отец и плохая мачеха уходят. |
| Hansel and Gretel sit under a tree and wait. | Гензель и Гретель сидят под деревом и ждут. |
| They wait and wait, but father and | Они (всё) ждут и ждут, но отец и |
| the bad stepmother don’t come back. | плохая мачеха (так и) не возвращаются. |
| "Don’t be sad, Gretel," says Hansel. | "Не грусти, Гретель" говорит Гензель. |

| Hansel and Gretel walk all night and all day. | Гензель и Гретель ходят(бродят) всю ночь и весь день. |
| But they can’t find the stones. | Но они не могут найти камушки. |
| They are lost. | Они потерялись. |
| They are very hungry and very tired. | Они очень хотят есть и сильно устали. |
| They go to sleep under a tree. | Они идут спать под деревом. |
| When they wake up, they see a little bird. | Когда они просыпаются, (то) они видят птичку. |
